About PE-RT II Electrofusion Coupler

PE-RT II electrofusion coupler is used to make a straight welded connection between two compatible PE-RT II pipes of the same outside diameter. The fitting contains an integrated heating element that is energized by compatible electrofusion equipment to create the joint.

It is suitable for straight-line connections in PE-RT II heating, hot-water circulation, HVAC hydronic and other compatible thermal-fluid systems. The required coupler must match the pipe size and the listed SDR / PN configuration, and the pipe surface should be prepared according to the applicable electrofusion procedure before welding.

About PE-RT II Material

PE-RT II (Polyethylene of Raised Temperature Resistance Type II) is a thermoplastic polyethylene material developed for piping systems that must maintain mechanical strength at elevated temperatures. Compared with conventional polyethylene, PE-RT II offers improved long-term temperature resistance while retaining the benefits of a weldable plastic piping system.

Because PE-RT II remains thermoplastic, compatible pipes and fittings can be joined by butt fusion or electrofusion to create a continuous all-plastic welded pipeline system. The material is also valued for corrosion resistance, resistance to internal scaling, relatively low weight, smooth internal surfaces and installation flexibility.

Operating Temperature

PE-RT II is used in hot- and cold-water and heating applications where elevated-temperature performance is required. The exact allowable temperature depends on the pipe and fitting design, SDR or wall thickness, operating pressure and the specified application class. Many PE-RT II piping systems are designed for long-term service in approximately the 70–80°C range, while short-term or maximum design conditions can reach about 95°C. Final temperature and pressure limits should always be confirmed against the actual pipe specification and project design conditions.

Typical Applications

  • Secondary district-heating and heat-distribution networks
  • Building heating and hot-water circulation systems
  • Radiant heating and underfloor heating systems
  • HVAC hydronic heating and cooling circuits
  • Heat-pump and geothermal circulation systems
  • Compatible industrial hot-water and thermal-fluid pipelines
  • Other hot- and cold-water piping applications requiring a corrosion-resistant welded plastic system

Selection Considerations

For project selection, the required pipe outside diameter, SDR or wall thickness, design pressure, normal operating temperature, maximum temperature, fluid medium and installation method should be confirmed together. This is especially important for heating networks because allowable pressure changes with operating temperature and intended service life.

Product Details

Overview

The PE-RT II electrofusion coupler provides a straight welded connection between compatible PE-RT II pipes. Embedded heating elements are energized by compatible electrofusion equipment to fuse the fitting and pipe surfaces together.

Product Features

  • PE-RT II construction
  • Electrofusion jointing
  • Straight pipe-to-pipe connection
  • Listed sizes from 20 to 1000 mm
  • Multiple SDR / PN options as shown in the specification table

Applications & Installation

Typical Applications

Used in compatible PE-RT II heating distribution, hot-water circulation, HVAC hydronic, heat-pump, geothermal and other thermal-fluid piping systems requiring an electrofusion straight joint.

Electrofusion Jointing

Prepare and clean the pipe ends, scrape the fusion area as required, align and clamp the components, then carry out electrofusion using compatible welding equipment and the applicable project installation procedure. Allow the joint to cool before removing clamps or applying load.
